About Komori Small Plane Factory

Komori small plane factory is operated by representative Hideki Komori (lower right in the photo), his wife Midori (upper right in the photo), and younger brother Masaki (upper left in the photo).

A blacksmith who makes planes for both his father and grandfather. Inheriting the family style of Komori, who has been involved in blacksmithing work for the entire family, the couple still enter the workplace and share their respective works.

Both Hideki and Masaki became traditional craftsmen, but Hideki, the representative, voluntarily returned it.

Komori small plane factory mainly manufactures small plane blades with a size of 15 mm or more. We manufacture flat planes, small flat planes, edge planes, warped planes, chamfering planes, inward and outward bend planes, planes, standing planes, and Nanjing planes.

Representative (Hideki) Career

1952: Born in Yoita
1971: he got a job at a hardware wholesaler in Sanjo City and trained.
1974: he succeeded his father and became the third generation.
2001: Certified as a traditional craftsman
2008: Returned as a traditional craftsman

Products of Komori

Small Flat Plane

It has a similar shape to the flat plane used when processing pillars in architecture. It is relatively small, but there is no clear standard for what size it is called a Small flat plane.

Small Edge Plane

Small Edge Plane is used for stepped processing.

Edge Plane

Edge Plane is used for stepping processing in the same way as the Small Edge Plane.

Chamfering Planes

The Chamfering Planes is used to cut (chamfer) the acute angle part at 45 degrees.

Inward and Outward Bend Planes

The Inward bend plane is used for machining cylindrical and convex curved surfaces, and the outward bend plane is used for machining concave curved surfaces such as where cylindrical members are attached.

Standing Plane

A standing plane is a plane with a blade attached perpendicular to the pedestal, and is used for adjusting the pedestal.

Nanjing planes

Unlike ordinary planes, Nanjing planes are equipped with plane blades along the grain of the wood. It is mainly used to cut curved parts such as furniture.
